The franc keeps its relentless appreciation against the single currency despite the increasing risk-on trade seen in the last couple of weeks. Upbeat sentiment derived from both better euro zone economic data and the situation in Greece were prompting investors to shift their preferences to riskier assets, pushing the high-yielders to fresh multi-month highs.

Neither comment made by T.Jordan, SNB interim President, nor the Swiss central bank's board members in order to talk down the Swiss franc were able to accomplish their mission. EUR/CHF has climbed as high as 1.2128, just to fall since then to Friday's 1.2040 zone, apparently en route to test the SNB's resolve?

M.Mohi-uddin, Managing Director of Foreign Exchange Strategy at UBS, thinks the franc will regain attention as the SNB's quarterly meeting, due on March 15, gets closer. He also believes the monetary authority will defend the peg and eventually lift the floor in response to the swelling deflationary pressures that are threatening the alpine economy in the last quarters. "Instead we think the risk remains of a sharp move higher in the cross in 2012 if the Swiss economy continues to suffer from an excessively strong currency", he affirmed.

If some key indicators in the following weeks don't show any hint of improvement, particularly the inflation figures, the SNB "will have to consider how it can take further measures to deal with the franc which the central bank still characterizes as 'highly valued' at current levels", the expert added.

Todo eso son idioteces... , el franco seguira como esta hasta que al banco central suizo, le de por (bajarlo o subirlo) cambiar.

Y hasta este momento y durante muchos meses, el franco no tendra ningun cambio...

No conoceis Suiza, se ve, tendriais que ir... entonces comprenderiais lo que digo...

Suiza esta anclada al euro, y no es porque lo diga yo, sino que es por que los suizos asi lo han querido... y hay que tener en cuenta que Suiza es el cerdito (hucha o kutxa) de toda Europa...

The Swiss National Bank should become more active in its monetary policy and move its CHF1.20-a-euro cap to CHF1.40, Daniel Lampart, chief economist at Swiss labor union Unia and a member of the central bank's supervisory council, said in an interview released Friday.

Lampart, quoted in Unia's newspaper Work, said "we badly need an exchange rate of CHF1.40 per euro" as the central bank's duty is to preserve price stability and a balanced economy.

The SNB introduced its CHF1.20-a-euro ceiling Sept. 6 in an attempt to check global demand for the currency as investors sought shelter from the long-running euro-zone debt crisis.

"At present Swiss prices are falling, raising the danger of deflation, unemployment is rising, and exporters are shifting production outside of the country," Lampart is quoted as saying.

The SNB has repeatedly said it will defend the CHF1.20-a-euro level, and will buy unlimited quantities of foreign exchange to do so.

Lampart said the issue of the euro/franc target rate wasn't discussed in the SNB's Bank Council, as it had no say in the setting of monetary policy, the newspaper reports.

Yo opino que hasta el 23 de marzo no habrá ningún cambio significativo en el cruce del EURCHF. Pero cada tres meses los miembros del SNB se juntan para debatir la situación del banco y de la economía suiza en general. En esa fecha es cuando se puede decidir subir el techo o no. En ese día habrá volatilidad.

Hoy la volatilidad ha sido pésima ya que entre el punto más alto y más bajo se ha movido 12 pips entre, 1,2055 y 1,2043. Es alucinante!

Dato que sale, dato en negativo. Aunque esta vez, mejor de lo esperado, pero aun y así, después de devaluar un 20% el franco en verano pasado, los datos económicos siguen saliendo negativos.

Switzerland’s leading economic barometer improves slightly less-than-expected in February, industry data showed on Wednesday.

In a report, the KOF Economic Research Agency said its index of 12 leading indicators improved by 0.03 points to minus 0.12 in February from January’s reading of minus 0.15, which was revised from a previously reported minus 0.17.

Analysts had expected the index to improve by 0.04 points to 0.11 in February.

The KOF Economic Barometer stopped its negative trend in February. For the first time since May 2011 it shows an increase albeit of a small magnitude.

However, it still is in negative territory indicating that over the next few months Swiss economic growth is likely to decline slightly in year-on-year terms.

The index is derived via a combined reading of 12 economic indicators related to banking confidence, production, new orders, consumer confidence and housing.

Following the release of the data, the Swiss franc remained modestly higher against the U.S. dollar, with USD/CHF easing down 0.04% to trade at 0.8953.
